Many modern vehicles rely on transponder key systems to
function and operate. The keys use a built-in chip as an extra security measure
to ensure false duplicates or other security hacks will not be able to start a
vehicle.
While many of the transponder keys are for cars, you will find other uses and benefits for the keys. When a locksmith installs or upgrades the locks in your home, consider a variety of locations to use transponder keys. The added security measure goes a long way to enhance security.
1. Entry Gates
An entry gate to a yard or driveway adds a whole other level of security beyond just the doors on your home. With transponder technology, you have additional ways to use the keys with your entry areas.
For example, you may choose to use transponder key technology in a key fob. When your vehicle pulls up to the gate, the fob will automatically connect with the gate and open. For smaller, walk-in gates, an actual key works in the lock when the transponder technology is present. The transponder will prevent key copies or lock picks from opening the gate.
A locksmith assigns the transponder chip a personal serial code that only applies to the keys you have. If you ever need copies, you go directly to a locksmith.
2. Garages
The garages on a home have a lot of valuable items, such as cars or tools, that you would not want someone to have easy access to. Install transponder keys on both the car garage doors and any standard doors within the garage.
The keys may be used in multiple locks on the garage. For example, a side entry door garage could have a standard knob lock along with a deadbolt lock. Each key may have individual transponder technology for extra security.
3. Rental Property
When you rent apartments or homes to others, you may worry about residents making copies of the key and having copies once they have moved out. With transponder key systems, a standard copied key will not work.
When a person moves out, any copies of the keys will be useless. The transponder keys will only work in the locks. You do not need to worry about replacing all of the locks on a rental property. If the transponder keys go missing, a locksmith would change the access chip in the lock so the keys will not work again in the future.
A change in the chip and access codes saves a lot of time and money from replacing each lock in the whole rental property.
4. Safes and Closets
You may have areas of your home you do not want anyone to have access to. For example, you may have a safe with special documents or money. A bedroom closet could also store a lot of valuables.
A transponder key provides the technology to increase security and ensure only you have access to the area. Along with a key, you may link a transponder access card to the area. The card goes in your wallet or purse and offers direct access to unlock the area.
To increase the security, you may use both the key and access card to offer a dual entry option. For example, if a child gains access to your safe key, the child would still need the transponder key card to fully open the safe.
